The name Epelbaum originates from the German word “Apfelbaum” (translated as “apple tree”). Probably, an ancestor of the bearer of the name had a garden with an apple tree (we used materials from the website https://toldot.ru/life/lnames/a/). When celebrating the Rosh Hashanah, or the Jewish New Year, it was common to eat apples with honey, a symbol of good living.
