Annotation:

“Abundant facial hair together with a darker complexion considerably differs them [the Jews – annotator’s note] from the Christian population; next, a large nose with the other traits irregular; examining and indecisive look where sometimes the awareness of past and present grievances can be detected, and sometimes reflecting the sense of certain satisfaction due to well-being achieved; hollow cheeks and therefore somewhat protruding cheekbones – here are some of the features of a Jewish visage that draw your attention at first glance” (from the book The Jews by A. D. Elkind, 1903).

"הצמיחה השופעת על הפנים, בשל הצבעה הכה יותר מבדילה אותם מאוד [יהודים-הערת הכותב] מהאוכלוסייה הנוצרית; ובנוסף אף גדול עם תווי פנים אחרים לא נכונים; מבט ביקורת וחסר ביטחון, שבו פעם תודעת המחסור בעבר ובהווה, ופעם משתקפת תחושת שביעות פנימית מסימת, הודות לרווח שהושגה, וא, לחיים שקועות, ומסיבה זו בולטים במידה מסוימת אזורי עצמות - אלו כמה מאפיינים של פרצוף יהודי המושכים את תשומת הלב מהמבט הראשון"
