Annotation:

The photograph was received from from the Kamenets District Chief of Police. Orynin (also Orinin) was a shtetl of Orinin Volost, Kamenets District; in the 1860s, it numbered 690 households and 4,555 residents (of which 40.1% were Jewish). It was 16 kilometers away from Kamenets-Podolsky and the nearest Zemstvo station in the shtetl of Lanckorun. The Jewish community formed there by the end of the 6th century. In 1863, 4 synagogues were active. The Jews worked in artisan workshops and in the tannery built by Jewish merchant Gutherz. (we used the information from The Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary) The photograph was displayed at the Russian Ethnographic Exhibition of 1867 in Moscow.

יהודים מעיירת אורינין. מחוז פודולסקי, אוייזד קמנצקי, וולוסט אורינסקאיה, עיירת אורינין. יהודים אירופאים. צלם אלמוני. 1866. אורינין היא עיירה במחוז קמנצקי של אורינסקאיה וולוסט: בשנת 1860 מנו בה 690 חצרות ו-4,555 תושבים (מהם 40.1% יהודים). היא נמצאה במרחק של 16 קילומטר מקמנץ-פודולסקי ותחנת הזמטסבו הסמוכה לעיירת לנצקורון. הקהילה היהודית התגבשה כאן לקראת סוף המאה השש עשרה. בשנת 1863 כאן פעלו 4 בתי הכנסת. היהודים עבדו בבתי המלאכה ובמפעל העור שבנה הסוחר היהודי גוטהרץ. התצלום הוצג בתערוכה האתנוגרפית הרוסית שהתקיינה בשנת 1867 במוסקבה.
