Annotation:

The appearance of a new moon was sanctified by a special prayer – the “Kiddush Levanah” blessing, or sanctification of the moon. The moon plays an important role in Judaism. New moon was associated to thoughts of one’s own renewal, of returning to the source of holiness – the Temple, Shehina, divine presence of God in the world. The ever-changing moon reflected the acts and power of the Almighty in natural phenomena and human actions, i.e. deeds. Its reflection in sunlight and its variability are like the Jewish people manifesting itself in the light of the Torah and having passed through periods of suffering and revival. The moon was blessed three days after the new moon day. The prayer was said standing in best clothes in the open air, and gazing at the moon (the close of Sabbath was believed to be the best time).

תיקייה "סוגי היהודים במחוז פודולסקי" כחלק מהאוסף "הסוגים בפודוליה ובבסרביה: לכבוד האגודה הגאוגרפית הקיסרית מטיפוגרף וצלם מיכאל גריים". גריים מיכאיל בן יוסף (1828-1911) היה אחד הצלמים המפורסמים בעיר, חבר פעיל של האגודה הגיאוגרפית הרוסית, חובב היסטורית המקום, נומיסמטיסט, בעל חנות הצילום משלו בכיכר הקתדרלה, עסק בהוצאת אוספי תצלומים, חוברות גלויות לתיירים הקשורות להיסטוריה ולתרבות של "תפילה במולד הירח" (כיתוב בדיו על גבית). צלם מ'. גריים. תיקייה "סוגי היהודים במחוז פודולסקי" כחלק מהאוסף "הסוגים בפודוליה ובבסרביה: לכבוד האגודה הגאוגרפית הקיסרית מטיפוגרף וצלום מיכאל גריים". קמנץ-פודולסק, 1883". את הופעתו של ירח חודש היתה קידשו באמצעות תפילה מיוחדת - ברכה "קידוש לבנה" קידוש הירח. לירח ישנה חשיבות גדולה ביהדות. למולד הירה היו קשורים מחשבות על חידוש עצמי, על חזרה למקור הקדושה - בית המקדש, מיקומה של "שכינה" - הנוכחות האלוהית בעולנו. מצב הירח המשתנים ללא הרף משקף את המעשים ואת כוחו של האלוהים בתופעות הטבע ובהתנהגותם של בני אדם, כלומר, במעשיהם. השתקפותו לאור השמש והשתנותו דומה לעם היהודי המתבטא באור התורה ועובר תקופות הסבל וההתחדשות. ברכת ירח צעיר התקיימה שלושה ימים לאחר מולד הירח. התפילה נאמרה בעמידה בבגדים חגיגיים תחת כיפת השמיים, והפנתה את עיניה לירח (מוצא שבת נחשב הזמן הכי טוב לזה).
