East Siberia, Primorsky Oblast, Okrug
кон. XIX в.
Metal: copper
РЭМ 799-13/1
Holy martyrs Paraskeva and Eudoxia were venerated by baptized Evenki. Women turned to them for help in solving family problems, in case of infertility, and for release from illnesses. The Evenki kept safe a cast copper icon with the image of these venerated saints, and carried it in a special case of dressed deer skin when migrating. A long deerskin string, or passing braid, enabled hanging the icon in a chum or wearing it on one’s neck. Abstract by V.V. Gorbacheva
