Depending on the season, the Dolgans harnessed 1 to 4 deer in a sled. The harness consisted of a belt, strap, and halter whose cheekpiece plates were made of mammoth tusk, and forehead plates, of deer horn. Attached to the front deer’s belt was a metal rein holder decorated with chains and inlay. For a woman’s team, the leather parts of deer harness, i.e. belt and strap, were trimmed with red cloth and richly decorated with bead embroidery. Abstract by I.A. Karapetova
