Wooden ski (lyz’), with a turned-up pointed nose. Cone-shaped bulges are carved on the ski’s nose and back. The Trans-Ural Komi call this ski type with cone-shaped bulges “Ostyak skis.” The bulges are provided on the nose and back for using the skis in spring time, when the snow crust can hold a hunter without skis, as a sled pallet: the skis were tied together at points near the bulges, a strap rope was tied to the thinner front bulges, the hunter put the rope over his shoulder, and the hunter’s load was places on the skis.
