Thanks to its wide cloven hooves, a reindeer can dig up even deep snow to find forage. In winter deer herdsmen drove their herds to the forest edge where the snow was softer and the deer could not wound their legs by sharp snow crust while foraging. Abstract by I.A. Karapetova
