Jewish ethnographic expedition of S. A. An-sky. The making of taliths (prayer shawls) was a strictly Jewish trade; taliths were woven by men only. In Podolia Province, the center of talith and tzitzit making was the shtetl of Bershad, Olgopol District. Bershad taliths were considered kosher by all religious parameters of different branches of Judaism.
