The letterhead card indicates, apart from “A.F. Belyaev, Kazan,” that Belyaev was “Successor of Locke in Kazan, commissioned by the Kazan University,” with the pemcil inscription “The Potresovs?” Alexander Filimonovich Belyaev, a citizen of Melekess, acquired the studio from G. F. Locke, a Prussian subject, at the end of 1898, and used his name for over a quarter of a century on his passe-partouts, styling himself “successor of G. F. Locke.” He worked in Vyatka and in Kazan, and had apprentices. He published postcards on the basis of his photographs (we used materials from the research paper of R. R. Idrisova).
