The Nganasans and Entsi wore footwear unique among all the Siberian peoples. A feature of the Nganasan/Entsi footwear was the lack of arch in the instep. The footwear did not follow the shape of the foot. It was a long sack made from deer leg fur, “rendering the foot the appearance of …a horse foot,” as travelers described it. The footwear was sewn from deer leg skin with tendon threads similar for both feet. Abstract by I.A. Karapetova
