Annotation:

Jewish ethnographic expedition of S. A. An-sky. Beit midrash, or beth hamidrash is a religious educational institution where anyone wishing could study the Talmud and other religious literature in his free hours and on Saturday. Israel Baal Shem Tov was the founder of Hasidism. The beit midrash was photographed in 1927 by A. I. Zarembsky, employee of the Department of Ethnography (see No. 4681-4).

"בית המדרש" ע"ש בעל שם טוב. מחוז פודולסק, אוייזד לטיצ'בסקי, עיירה יהודית מדז'יבוז'. יהודים אירופאים. המשלחת האתנוגרפית היהודית של ס'.א'. אנ-סקי צלם - יודובין ס'.ב'. 1913. תמונה מודפסת. "בית המדרש", "בית מדרש" הוא מוסד לחינוך דתי שבו כל אדם יכול ללמוד תלמוד וספרות דתית אחרת בזמנו הפנוי ובשבת. ישראל בעל שם טוב הוא מייסד החסידות. צילומי "בית המדרש" ב-1927 נערכו על ידי חבר האגף האתנוגרפי א'.אי'. זרמבסקי (ראה מס' 4681-4).
