Photo from the “Album of Memories of the v of Karasubazar. Scenes and views before his departure for Jerusalem in 1899.” Under the portrait is an inscription in Hebrew. Its semantic translation is, “Our great teacher and lord, our wise rabbi Chaim Hezekiah Medini, let God take care of him and save his life, head of the Karasubazar court, known as Hakham. The price of it (the photograph) is sacred (and intended) for the printing on his book “Tzetze chemed.” Hakham’s signature /. Most humble /or Your servant / Chaim Hezekiah Medini known as Chacham.”
