Seal skins were tanned with special care – they were used to make footwear, hunting clothes, saddlebags, to line skis, and much more. The skins were stretched on large wooden frames and dried, then tanned to eliminate the specific seal smell. Additionally, long circular straps (10-13 meters) were cut from seal skin for reindeer herding lassos, dog harnesses were made, and soft bridles for reindeer calves. Products made from seal skin were strong and durable.
