In autumn, during rutting time (mating season), young buck’s horns were sawn off. They were becoming aggressive at such time, and engaging in a fight, could seriously wound each other. In spring, when castrated stags and she-deer shed horns, riding animals’ antlers were sawn off to speed up the process and to avoid damage. Abstract by I.A. Karapetova
