The headscarf was an important element of the women’s costume. A woman could not be seen either indoors or outdoors without a headscarf. Wearing a headscarf all the time was related to the rite of “avoidance,” i.e. covering the face and hair in the presence of outsiders and older male relatives. Abstract by I.A. Karapetova
