Annotation:
A glove puppet (Uzbek: "kul kurchak"). Judging by the puppet's appearance, Ir-Nazar did not belong to any of the Central Asian peoples. In Muslim tradition, monkeys were considered "unclean" animals, and direct interaction with them, even in puppet shows, was reprehensible for Muslims. However, mise-en-scènes featuring a tame monkey and its guide were very popular.
