The pinafore is made of brown silk with blue flowers, on a thin printed fabric lining, with a center seam at the front, decorated with cord and copper buttons. The pinafore belonged to Agafia Gavrilovna, the last Big Lady Preceptress of the Vyg River hermitage. Such pinafores were worn by anchoresses and old women of Old Belief on the Winter, Summer, Pomor, and Kandalaksha coasts; the pinafore was also known as kostych. Abstract by O.G. Baranova
