When skiing, hunters used a pole with a four-sided spatula at the bottom. Another option for a pole is one with a ring at the bottom and a small shovel at the top. The spatula removed the snow sticking to the skis, camouflaging traps and snares. Most often, ski poles were made from soft types of wood (rowan, willow).
