“Among the cities of the Kingdom of Poland, a prominent place once belonged to Łowicz, now an ordinary district town of Warsaw Province, albeit differing from its district brethren in the multitude of churches, ancient and generally better buildings, parks, fairs, and partially in municipal improvement. But there were times when Łowicz was the residence of Archbishops of Gniezno and primates of Poland…” (M. P. Ustimovich. Łowicz. Ancient Residence and Estate of Primates of Poland. 1894).
