Annotation:

Drayman/cabman was a common occupation of Jews in towns and shtetls. They were free of field work (the Jews were forbidden to own land), and accurate and punctual in fulfilling their obligations to carry people and cargoes.

עגלון. מחוז סדלטסק, עיר ראדין. יהודים אירופאים. צלם סרג'פוטובסקי א'.ק'. .צילום משלחתי. 1909 תמונה מודפסת. מקצוע העגלון היה נפוץ בין היהודים בערים ועיירות. היה להם פטור מעבודות החקלאות (על פי דין, לא היה ליהודים זכות להחזיק במקרקעין), וכמו כן הם היו דייקנים בביצוע התחייבויותיהם להסעת אנשים והובלת מטענים.
