Annotation:

“Radzyn is such a small backwater settlement that it even sounds odd to call it a town. ...All these days, a snowstorm has been raging here, and the frost was rather severe (10-15°). The local folks do not remember anything of the kind. The surveillance police treat us tolerably, only the gendarme is always nearly at out heels. With the people, everything is alright so far. Side-locked Jews can also be met here. If I can, I’ll try to gather a Jewish collection as well (From A. K. Serzputowski’s letter to the Department of Ethnography. RME Archive).

משפחה בבית ליד התנור. מחוז סדלטסק, עיר ראדין. יהודים אירופאים. צלם סרג'פוטובסקי א'.ק'. .צילום משלחתי. 1909 תמונה מודפסת. "ראדין הוא מושב כל כך מבודד וקטן, שמוזר אפילו לכמות אותה עיר. ... כל הימים האלה משתוללת כאן סופת שלג, יש כפור יחסית חזק (10-15°). תושבי המקום לא זוכרים סיג מצב כזה. יחס המשטרה החיצונית הוא סביר, רק את הז'נדרמים מלווים כמעט על העקבים. ביחסים עם העם עדיין הכל הולך בשלום. יש כאן גם יהודים עם פאות. אנסה, אם יצליח, לאסוף גם את האוסף היהודי" (קטע ממכתבו של א'.ק'. סרג'פוטובסקי לאגף האתנוגרפיה. ארכיון של המוזיאון האתנוגרפי הרוסי).
