The photo shows a woman wearing a traditional festive costume, mounted on a white horse in parade harness at the Yssyakh traditional kumiss feast in spring. The Yakuts believed the horse to be a sacred animal, white horses being especially worshipped as divine animals of heavenly origin. Horse worshipping rites were held at the Yssyakh feast, which contained prayers to luminous heavenly deities about rich cattle crop. Abstract by M.V. Fedorova
