Lyamtsa (Lyamitsa) is an old Pomor village at the mouth of the Lyamtsa river on an elevation of the Onega coast, White Sea. The picture shows a row of houses along a log-paved street on high basements, with “vyshka” attics. A typical layout of a settlement in Pomorye in the second half of the 19th and early 20th century was the riverside layout in a row: one or two rows of houses stood in lines one after another along both riversides. In the foreground is a barefoot girl with a baby in her arms. Abstract by O.G. Baranova
