The matron is wearing a fur coat with a broad collar and cuffs and a bonnet. Winter clothes were made in Pomorye mostly from sheepskin, but wealthier people had winter clothes of expensive furs: seal, bear, squirrel, sometimes sable or beaver. The cut of fur garments was similar to that of caftans – relatively tight in their upper part and a wide skirt, wrap-type. Abstract by O.G. Baranova
