Sompyl uky – a metal headdress in the form of a crown around the diameter of which was attached an arc with the representation of reindeer antlers. The shaman would receive it only after seven years of shamanistic practice. By putting it on he would “turn into” the celestial reindeer. The red cloth ribbons with bells and beads attached to the rim and falling below the knees symbolized plaits spirits could climb to the shaman from below as along a path. Abstract by I.A. Karapetova
