Annotation:

Tzadik Raphael, the founder of the “Bershad” Hasidic creed, placed great importance on the commandment to wear “tzitzit,” threads braided together in a special way, to be attached to the corners of four-cornered garments. Many Bershad Jews were engaged in making tzitzit and taliths (praying shawls). Bershad taliths were believed kosher by all religious parameters of various brands of Judaism, and the shtetl was the center of talith and tzitzit making in Podolia.

בית. מחוז פודולסקי, אוייזד אולגופולסקי, עיירה יהודית ברשאד. יהודים אירופאים. הצלם זארמבסקי א'.אי'. .צילום משלחתי. 1924 תמונה מודפסת. מייסד אסכולת חסידי "ברשד", צדיק רפאל, ייחס חשיבות רבה למצוות לבישת ה"ציצית" — חוטים השזורים יחד באופן מיוחד ומחוברים בפינות הכיסוי המרובע. רבים מיהודי ברשד היו מעורבים בייצור ציציות וטליתות (כיסויי תפילה). טליתות ברשאד נחשבו כשרות על פי כל הפרמטרים הדתיים של הכיוונים השונים ביהדות, והעיירה היתה מרכז ייצור הטליתות והציציות בפודוליה.
