“A synagogue of interesting architecture has survived in Smotrich; it is all covered with murals inside. According to the Jews, it is about 200 years old. Today, the mural painting has peeled off, but in the dome and on the squinch arches it is still quite intact. Unfortunately, its ruin is inevitable... many of its components fall apart, many window panes are knocked out, but no one dares touch that” (M.
