The stock, or the so-called deer shoe, was put in winter on deer trying to escape from the herd, to restrict their mobility. The stock was put on a front leg above the hoof, with the pin downwards, so as to keep the stock at a distance from the ground. The cross stick, a latch keeping the stock on the deer’s leg, was driven into holes provided on the stock ends with a special little wooden hammer. Abstract by I.A. Karapetova
