Annotation:

Beith midrash, or beth hamidrash is a religious educational institution where anyone wishing could study the Talmud and other religious literature in his free hours and on Saturday. Israel Baal Shem Tov, the founder of Hasidism, lived in Medzybozh in the 1740s-1760s. In 1912-1914, the beit midrash was photographed by the Jewish Ethnographic Expedition of S. A. An-sky (see No. 4997-13/1).

"בית המדרש", "בית מדרש" הוא מוסד לחינוך דתי, בו כל אדם יכול ללמוד את התלמוד ואת ספרות הדת אחרת בזמנו הפנוי ובשבת. ישראל בעל שם טוב - מייסד החסידות, התגורר במג'יבוז' בשנות 1740-1760. בשנות 1912-1914 נערך צילום בית המדרש במסגרת המשלחת האתנוגרפית היהודית שנערכה על ידי ס'.א'. אן-סקי (ראה מס' 4997-13/1).
