Annotation:

The woman is wearing a traditional loose-fitting dress with wide sleeves and stand collar made from mill figured silk, with coral beads on her neck, and earrings with pendants of a traditional shape. The man is wearing a black sateen doublet, and a scull cap on his head. The Bukharan Jews adopted doublets earlier than the Tajiks or Uzbeks, and became widely used, being a typical garment for them in the late 19th and early 20th century Unlike Moslem women, the Bukharan Jewesses had more social freedom. The did not hide from strangers and readily posed for photographers; this is why the collection contains many photos of Bukharan Jewesses, which allows to get a true idea of their traditional costume.

יהודים בוכרים. חבל-ארץ טורקיסטן, מחוז סמרקנד, עיר סמרקנד. יהודים בוכרים. תמונה ממשלחת אתנוגרפית ס. מ. דודין משנת 1901-1902. צלם ס. מ. דודין שנת 1902. האישה - לבושה במשלה מסורתית רופפת, שרוולים רחבים וצווארון-עמיד, השמלה נתפרה ממשי "ז'קארד" ; על צווארה - חרוזי אלמוגים, עגילים טבעתיים עם תליונים בצורה מסורתית. גבר לבוש - ב "קמזול" עשוי מסאטן שחור, על ראשו - כיפה צבעונית. ה "קמזול" הופיעה קודם בקרב היהודים הבוכרים ורק לאחר מכן אצל הטג'יקים והאוזבקים, וניהיה מאוד נפיץ, הוצג בסוף המאה ה 19-ותחילת המאה ה 20 כסוג הלבוש האופייני נשים בוכריות יהודיות, להבדיל מנשים מוסלמיות, היו בעלי חופש חברתי גדול יותר. הן לא הסתתרו מאנשים זרים ובשמחה דיגמנו בפני צלמים.
