Annotation:

Of the Bukharan Jews, only youths and young men wore “kallapusj,” or scull-caps, as separate headwear. Abr pattern (from Tajik and Uzbek “abr,” cloud) was applied to threads prior to weaving by successive binding (reservation) and dyeing fragments of the future pattern. During the dyeing, the dyestuff flowed to under the reserved portions a bit, adding blurred, “cloudy” contours to the ornament. The Bukharan Jews were not engaged in weaving, but used in their clothing fabrics traditionally manufactured by the Tajiks and Uzbeks.

נער בחלוק מסוג "קמזול" עשוי משי עם דפוס עליו וכיפה עשויה מברוקד. חבל-ארץ טורקיסטן, מחוז סמרקנד, עיר סמרקנד. יהודים בוכרים. תמונה ממשלחת אתנוגרפית ס. מ. דודין משנת 1901-1902. צלם ס. מ. דודין שנת 1902. רק צעירים בקרב היהודים הבוכרים ענדו "קלפוש" כיפה, כובע רקום בחוטים צבעוניים. הדפוס המיוחד הוחל על חוטי התפירה על ידי חבישה רציפה והכתמת שברי הציור העתידי. בתהליך הציור הצבע טפטף מעט מתחת לאזורים השמורים והתבנית הושגה בקווי מתאר "מעוננים" מטושטשים. יהודים בוכרים לא עסקו באריגה, אך בתפירת בגדיהם השתמשו רק בבדים שהופקו באופן מסורתי על ידי טג'יקים ואוזבקים.
