Annotation:

Jewish ethnographic expedition of S. A. An-sky. Wooden synagogues were large-size cribwork buildings with tall gambrel roofs. A typical feature of wooden synagogues was an undecorated façade and abundance of decoration inside. Apart from the central prayer hall, the synagogues had additional spaces: a space for women (in the second storey or in an extension) with a separate entrance, for a “cheder” (elementary school), religious court of law, community council meetings etc.

בית הכנסת מעץ. מחוז קייב, אוייזד קנבסקי, עיירה יהודית קוזין. יהודים אירופאים. המשלחת האתנוגרפית היהודית של ס'.א'. אנ-סקי צלם - יודובין ס'.ב'. 1912-1914. תמונה מודפסת. בתי הכנסת מעץ היו מבני כרות גדולים, עם גגות גבוהים ומזוגזגים. הם אופיינו בהיעדר העיצוב החיציני ובעושר העיצוב הפנימי. בנוסף לאולם התפילה המרכזי, בבתי הכנסת היו יחידות נוספות: אזור לנשים (בקומה השנייה או בהרחבה) עם כניסה נפרדת, אזור ה"חדר" (בית הספר היסודי), אזור בית הדין הדתי, אולם לישיבות מועצת הקהילה ועוד.
