Annotation:

“Cold” synagogue on Shkolische. “Just like an infant wakes up suddenly in the midst of splashes of sunlight, we felt inside the synagogue. The abundance of artistic forms seems inexhaustible. One can see how it all flows like from a horn of plenty, how the virtuoso’s hand never grows tired and never hinders the rapid flow of thoughts... The palette is all amber and pearls, with brick-red rays. One cannot encompass the painting, it is live and moving because of its inherent luminescence" (From the memoirs of artist and architect L. M. Lisitsky who visited the synagogue in 1916).

"כמו שהתינוק פתאום מתעורר המוקף בתרסיסי השמש, כך הרגשנו את עצמנו בתוך בית הכנסת. עושר דמויות האמנות נראה בלתי נדלה. ניתן לראות שכל זה נשפך, כמו מתוך קרן שפע, שידו של הוירטואוז לא מתעייפת ולא לעכבת את זרם המהיר של מחשבותיו... לוח הצבעים - במגווני ענבר-פנינה עם קרניים בצבע הלבנה האדומה. לא ניתן לתפוס את התמונה במבט אחד; היא חיה ונעה עקב הזוהר הפנימי הטמון בה" (מזיכרונותיו של האמן ואדריכל ל'.מ'. ליסיצקי, שביקר בבית הכנסת בשנת 1916).
