Such a band was part of the headgear typical for the Atabai Yamoud women of the east coast of the Caspian Sea. A rectangular piece of fabric was folded cornerways into a strip up to 10 cm wide. It was wrapped around the head like a hoop and tied in a knot at the front, with the ends tucked in carefully. Since the 1940s, the Jafarbai Yamouds made the alyn-dany with a paper liner for strength. According to the registrar, the Yamoud women of Dashoguz wrapped such a band directly over a taqiya.
