Made of deer head hide. Such rugs were placed over a saddle to cover deer packs. The richer Evenki spread a kumalan between the sweat cloth and the packs. The rug could also be interlaid between the reindeer’s back and the saddle to protect the animal’s spine from damage. Abstract by M.V. Fedorova
