Annotation:

A hollowing knife for extraction of pine sapwood, or the inner layer of pine bark, used by the Saami as a seasoning for fish soup, and also added to flour when baking bread. A collum is part of the set of tools for extraction and preparation of pine grits (see Nos. 6794-87, 445-2, 445-3). The archaic nature of this product is indicated by the fact that “pine bread” is mentioned as early as in the Kalevala runes. Abstract by A.A. Zankovskaya
