Made of birch wood as a rectangular chest with tall walls. Its deer skin suede covering is painted brown with ocher, and decorated with black velvet, beads, and metal plaques. The flat birch bark lid was usually kept separately, and attached to the box during migrations only. Brides usually made such boxes as their dowry. A custom-built box cost the price of one deer.
