Consists of a double-edge crescent metal blade fixed with two thin plates in a rectangular carved ivory handle. Women used the knife to strip the flesh side of animal hides, and to cut meat, fish, or wild herb roots. In the past it was used to cut newborn babies’ umbilical cord. Such knife formed part of a deceased woman’s funeral accessories. Abstract by V.V. Gorbacheva
