The winter costume of a Chukchi woman consisted of an outer and inner overalls, footwear with a fur stocking, and a cap: The closed-up outer overalls with wide sleeves and legs were sewn from deer hides, fur outside. The edges of the low gorge and sleeves were trimmed with dog fur. The outer overalls were worn in winter over the inner overalls of cropped deer hides, fur outside. The double fur trimming of the gorges of the outer and inner overalls and trouser legs fixed with tendon passing braids over the footwear enabled the Chukchi women to handle the cold easily.
