A strongly sewn and richly decorated fur garment was a visiting card of a woman. The Khanty made women’s winter garments to be worn open and double sided. Making a fur coat required six deer skins: three were used for the face and three for the lining. Spruce festive fur coats were richly ornamented with fur patchwork, strips of which were sewn in outline seams along the flaps, hem, and back. Each pattern had its name. Abstract by I.A. Karapetova
