The photo shows two men and a zuyok, or ship boy. The fishermen are wearing knitted sweaters, canvas and cloth trousers, and leather boots; the boy is wearing a beaked cap, and the men, caps with a fur flap. From under the men’s short sweaters, long hems of their light shirts can be seen, which are not tucked into the trousers but are worn loose. The younger man has a neck-cloth on his neck. The Pomors are standing on a sailing ship holding on the handles of a wooden capstan for heaving and dropping anchor. By leaning on the handle ends, capstans were set in motion, and as it rotated, the anchor chain was winding onto the log. Abstract by O.G. Baranova
