«Lovdus», a mark sign tied to the joist of a salmon seine

It was made from two half-round pine boards tied together at an acute angle. Carved on one of the halves is a round hole, the date “1807 года” and the letters “СГ,” and on the other, the encircled letters “ФфД.” The lovdus was set in the middle of the seine, it helped take the fish out of the tackle uniformly. Besides, it was used to indicate the bite – frequent dipping of the float indicated the seine’s fullness. Abstract by O.G. Baranova
